Garima Arora becomes first Indian woman Michelin star chef

Just in a short span of time, Garima Arora has bagged the first Michelin star for her restaurant GAA in Bangkok. Chef Garima hails from Mumbai.

GAA opened in April last year and offers an eclectic menu of India and Thailand along with fusion of the cuisines from the respective lands. The menu boasts of flavours, ingredients, and methods from both Thailand and India. The restaurant earned 1 star this morning at a ceremony in Bangkok. While she was in between a wine pairing tasting with her team, she received a call followed by an email about her winning the star.

Before starting her own venture, she worked with a number of prolific restaurateurs like Rene Redzepi, and started her journey as an intern and got a number of promotions in the following two years. Before taking to hospitality, Garima was a journalist with the Indian Express.

She worked at Gaggan Anand’s restaurant till the restaurant owners made a decision to open another restaurant in Bangkok.
