Karnataka floods: Kumaraswamy conducts second aerial survey

Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy conducted an aerial survey of landslides and flood-affected areas in Kodagu district for the second day on Sunday.

“Rains have been causing massive damage in Kodagu. The state officials, along with Indian Army troops, Navy divers are carrying out rescue and relief operations on war-footing,” Kumaraswamy said.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to the CM and has extended all support in the rescue and relief operations.

While addressing the media, Kumaraswamy said that the situation was under control and the Army has reached the flood-affected area for the rescue operation. He also inspected rain-affected areas in Somawarpet and adjacent areas.

The CM also presented cheques to the families of Avarthi village who lost their houses in floods.  He also announced an ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh per family who turned homeless after the recent floods.

Since August 14, incessant rains have lashed Karnataka, resulting in landslides and flooding in many parts of the state. Following the same, a high alert was issued on August 15 in five districts namely Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada, Hassan, Chikkamagaluruand Shivamogga.
