Wrestler Bajrang Punia clinched India’s first gold medal at the 18th Asian Games after defeating Takatani Daichi of Japan in the men’s 65 kg freestyle title on Sunday.

President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sports Authority of India congratulated the 24-year-old wrestler.

Earlier on Friday, India’s Chef de Mission for Asian Games 2018, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh confirmed that all medals won by Indian athletes at the quadrennial event will be dedicated to the former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
