Avengers Infinity War collects Rs 147.2 cr at India box office, leaves Bollywood far behind

The superhero mashup, ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ kicked off the summer box office in high style over the weekend.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh confirmed the box-office mathematics on Twitter and wrote, “East. West. North. South… It’s #AvengersInfinityWar wave across the country… Fri ? 31.30 cr. India biz NettBOC… GrossBOC: ? 40.13 cr… Sets a NEW BENCHMARK for Hollywood films in India… #Avengers #InfinityWar.”

To give a perspective of how huge the film’s Monday numbers are, Padmaavat – the biggest Hindi language hit of 2018 – earned Rs 14.25 crore on its first Monday. Baaghi 2, another big hit, raked in Rs 12 crore on day 4 of release.

Marvel Studio’s biggest superhero film has become 2018’s highest Hollywood earner in India till date with its gross box office collections of Rs 120.09 crore in three days.
The film, which brings together the largest gathering of superheroes to battle it out against supervillain Thanos, also had the biggest day one opening ever for a Hollywood movie in the country.
Avengers: Infinity War stars Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Chadwick Boseman, Sebastian Stan, Don Cheadle, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Pom Klementieff, Benedict Cumberbatch, Benedict Wong, Tom Holland, among others.
