Indira Gandhi airport fastest growing in the world, globally ranked No 16

Date:

Indira Gandhi International airport has emerged as the fastest growing airport in the world, followed by Guangzhou China, according to Airports Council International (ACI). The number of passengers passing through the airport increased 14 per cent, indicating a shift in travel pattern to Asia .

Other airports in India where passenger traffic grew significantly include Kolkata at 27%, while Hyderabad saw a 20% gain and Bangalore 13%.

China and India are poised to be among the world’s top three air-travel markets by 2020 as rising incomes make fares more affordable, Montreal-based ACI said.

In terms of overall ranking the Delhi airport jumped to number 16 from 22 in 2016, while John F. Kennedy International Airport was ousted from the 20 busiest in the world, as a result of growth in Asia.

Atlanta or Atlanta-Hartsfield-Jackson airport continued to be the most-traveled airport in 2017  followed by Beijing and Dubai.
