Pakistani troops target Indian villages; 2 civilians, 1 BSF trooper killed

Three people, including a Border Security Force jawan and 2 civilians were killed on Friday and nearly 25 others injured when Pakistani troops targeted Indian villages with artillery and mortar in the latest flare-up along the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.

Samba deputy commissioner Sheetal Nanda identified the martyred jawan as head constable Jagpal Singh of 176 Battalion of the BSF, who was posted near the Chillyari outpost in Samba sector. He hailed from Rajasthan.

A police officer said two other BSF jawans suffered injuries in the shelling along the in Arnia, RS Pura, Ramgarh and Hiranagar subsectors of Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts along the International Border.

The jawan was the second BSF personnel killed since Wednesday in repeated ceasefire violations by the neighbouring country.

A police officer said two other BSF jawans suffered injuries in the shelling along the in Arnia, RS Pura, Ramgarh and Hiranagar subsectors of Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts along the International Border.

At least 23 villagers have also been reported injured in the three districts.
