Snow meets fire: Snowfall pics from Sahara will leave you speechless!

Date:

Sahara desert brings to mind intensely high temperatures, mirage inducing heat and sand dunes straight out of Lawrence of Arabia. But there was a different story altogether in the sand dunes on Sunday.

Snow started falling in the Algerian town of Ain Sefra in the early hours of Sunday morning, giving children an opportunity to race each other down the slopes. The desert was covered in a layer up to 16 inches deep.

However, the rising temperatures meant that it melted before 5’o clock local time.

Here are the pictures but before you go through them, be prepared for some astonishing pictures. Also don’t forget to promise yourself not to dream about being there.

It was just the third time in nearly 40 years that the town, known as “The Gateway to the Desert,” has seen snowfall.

In 1979, a snowstorm lasting half an hour stopped traffic. Two years ago, snow settled for around a day, and the town saw snowfall again last year.
