World Book Day-Ten books that will take you to a new world

Date:

Do you know, a person who doesn’t read is living only one life? Yes, that is a fact all book lovers will relate to. Reading makes your mind productive. Proof?! Don’t we all create the characters from the book in our mind according to our imagination?

If you still cannot feel the magic because you were all dunked streaming videos then the World Book Day is one perfect time to start multiple journeys with the books. From where to start? Okay, breathe, here is the absolute list of books that you MUST read and get lost in your world. Also, if you are a book worm, scan the list and get the one you haven’t read yet!

  1. The Lord of the Rings by J R. R. Tolkien

When you start reading this book, you will automatically get transported to a sleepy village in the Shire with Frodo Baggins in company and his incredible journey when the Ring falls under his care. A book treasured by all since 1954.

  1. To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee

Though we lost the prized author just last year, this phenomenal coming-of-age story, anti-racist and historical drama novel remains in countless book shelves.

ALSO READ: The more coffee you drink, the longer you will live

  1. The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas

Don’t we all say and quote “The three musketeers” in our pictures? Now read the book to reconnoitre the time when a clash of words between the republicans and monarchists was prevalent.

  1. Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling

(Eyes filled with excitement) Okay, if you found the 8 parts of the movie “wonderful”, reading all the books will blow your mind. How we never wanted the book to end…*sighs*

  1. The Home and the World by Rabindranath Tagore

If you are looking for beauty in words, this will mesmerise your mind. Tagore’s description of his mother will make you keep your phone aside and love your mother more.

  1. Like the Flowing River by Paulo Coelho

When you are just about to give up on life, this book will restore your faith.  A collection of stories, it will keep your mind captured and you will read one story after another.

  1. David Copperfield by Charles Dickens

One word, classic! A personal favourite of Dickens as well, you will be drowning deep in the adversities the character David faces in his life along with some light moments. Did you know it is considered the author’s veiled autobiography?

  1. Midnight’s Children by Salman Rushdie

This book came years ago but still stands strong for the brilliant work of fiction the author put on paper. Saleem Sinai’s telepathic power will take you back in time when India became independent.

  1. Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

After 56 short stories and four novels, nothing beats the detective stories Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote. You will be spellbound as Holmes cracks through the mystery making you feel that you are part of the investigation.

  1. On the Road by Jack Kerouac

Before you decide to pick this book or not, you should know that this is the bible of the literary movement of Beat Generation. An exhilarating ride to America of the 1950s, it serves you the pleasure of exploration of personal freedom and limits. It has been rated as one of the “most influential” novels of the 20th century. Pick this!

Let’s clear the air. The numbering has nothing to do with the content of the books. These are gold and by now you should purchase them and grab your cuppa to enjoy reading them.
