Tamil Nadu crisis LIVE updates: Sasikala surrenders in Bengaluru

A day after the Supreme Court convicted former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s close aide, VK Sasikala surrendered in Bengaluru on Wednesday escorted by the police from both Tamil Nadu and Karnataka to begin a four-year prison term ordered by the top court in disproportionate assets case.

Supreme Court, however, abates the appeal proceedings against J Jayalalithaa owing to her death on December 5.

Since Jayalalithaa is dead, the case against her would be abated. The other accused in the case are Sasikala’s relatives V N Sudhakaran and Ilavarasi. Earlier all four had been convicted by the trial court but acquitted by the Karnataka High Court.

Sasikala and Ilavarsi sent to jail. VN Sudhakaran is being given time until today to surrender. VK Sasikala reaches Parappana Agrahara jail in Bengaluru to surrender. Registrar of Karnataka High Court had today ordered shifting of the court to Parappana Agrahara jail.

The Governor after going through the letter of support of 125 MLAs assured that we’ll be called soon to form the government: Min Saroja. Over 500 police officials can be seen at the Golden Bay resort, where the MLAs are staying. The police battalion has reached with Kuvathur village.

Sasikala visits MGR Memorial House before heading to Bengaluru. AIADMK MLA Saravanan files the complaint against Sasikala and Edappadi Palaniswami for allegations including kidnapping say report: Sasikala and two others have started their journey to Bengaluru to surrender before the court. She will visit Jayalalithaa’s memorial at Marina Beach before going to Bengaluru.

Sasikala asked for two weeks time to surrender from the Supreme Court, but apex court turns down. She has now filed a plea before Bengaluru Special Court seeking two weeks time to surrender citing ill health. Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker Thambidurai says soon review petition will be filed against the SC order.

 

He said, “I am sure Chinna Amma (Sasikala) will come back soon  and will rule the State.” He also welcomed the appointment of Dinakaran as Deputy General Secretary of AIADMK. Sasikala will be driven down to Bangalore to surrender. Pannnerselvam camp led by Minister Pandiarajan planning to visit the private resort, where Sasikala supporting MLAs are staying, to urge them to rethink decisions taken yesterday and stay united.
