An action-adventure game, Grand Theft Auto (GTA), led a 16-year-old to float a gang of carjackers.
Joint CP (crime) Ravindra Yadav said the boy was fed up with his father, a transporter, for not giving him enough pocket money. He became friends with another teen at a gaming parlour in Rohini, who had stolen a car earlier to buy Christmas dinner.
To increase their lust for money and adventure, they then roped in Deepak Changa, an autorickshaw driver, who also got his friend Lakshya Shokeen on board.
DCP (crime) Madhur Verma said, “They only targeted new-looking cars with only the driver. They had pasted dark tinted films on all windows.”
First released in 1997, GTA has been a huge hit among teenagers and has seen many updated versions. Many carjackers across the globe have claimed to have been inspired by this game.
