Battle For States: 68% voter turnout in Uttarakhand, 65.5% in UP till 5pm

Dehradun/Lucknow: Polling began to the 69 of the 70 assembly seats of Uttarakhand along with 67 Assembly constituencies spread over 11 districts in Western Uttar Pradesh amid tight security on Wednesday with people queueing up outside polling booths since early morning to cast their votes.

Polling schedule for Karnaprayag seat in Chamoli district has been revised to March 9 due to the death of BSP candidate Kuldeep Singh Kanwasi in a road accident on Sunday last.

The districts in Uttar Pradesh where polling is on amid tight security arrangements are Saharanpur, Bijnor, Moradabad, Sambhal, Rampur, Bareilly, Amroha, Pilibhit, Kheri, Shahjahanpur and Badaun.

5:30 PM: 65.5% voter turnout recorded till 5 pm in phase two of UP polls

5:15 PM: 68% voter turnout in Uttarakhand till 5pm

3:00 PM: 54.27% turnout till 3 PM in Uttar Pradesh and 53% in Uttarakhand

1:00 PM: 41.08% voter turnout in UP, 40% in Uttarakhand till 1pm

12:00 noon: CM Harish Rawat casts his vote at booth no 45 in Dehradun

10:25 am: Maximum voting was reported from Saharanpur and Bareilly at 11 per cent each, followed by Rampur (nine per cent) and Amroha (7.4 per cent).

10:23 am: Poll officials say they were “quite excited and hopeful” that the voter turnout would considerably improve than last time in 2012.In the last assembly elections in 2012, voting for the same seats had recorded 60 per cent polling, which is expected to increase, an EC official said.

10:02 am: Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi standing in queue to cast his vote at polling booth number 303 in Rampur.

9:45 am: 10.75% voter turnout recorded in Uttar Pradesh till 9 AM.

9:30 am: MoS Finance Santosh Gangwar casts his vote at polling booth no. 60 in Bareilly with wife Saubhagya Gangwar

7:40 am: Voting process which had been halted at Badaun Sadar constituency’s S.K.Inter College-booth no. 183, now resumes.

7:00 am: Polling begins.

6:53 AM: Security arrangements in place at a polling booth in Moradabad as 67 assembly constituencies will to go polls today.
