Now if Sonia Gandhi comes to Goa, another party member may quit

Date:

Linking the crossing over of two Congress MLAs to the BJP with the visits of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi and senior leader Digvijaya Singh, BJP on Friday took a dig saying a former Chief Minister may leave the Congress camp if Sonia Gandhi happens to visit Goa.

“When Rahul Gandhi came to Goa, Congress MLA Mauvin Godinho joined BJP. Again when AICC general secretary Digvijaya Singh came here, another Congress MLA, Pandurang Madkaikar came to BJP.

“Now if Congress president Sonia Gandhi happens to come to Goa it is likely that a former Congress chief minister will join BJP,” Tendulkar said without naming anyone while addressing ‘Vijay Sankalp’ rally of his party in Cumbharjua constituency.

His remarks echo Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar who had said that Congress leaders started quitting after Rahul Gabdhi’s public rally in Goa.

Dabholim MLA Godinho, a former Power Minister, had resigned on December 16 when Rahul addressed a public meeting at Fatorda near here.

Two days later, Madkaikar, who represents Cumbharjua constituency, quit the Congress.

Goa is going to polls next year.
