Pakistani artists Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan faced lot criticism in Bollywood as the MNS after the Uri attack imposed a ban on the Pakistani actors and told them to leave India. As a consequence, a report suggests that Mahira Khan has been eased out of the Shah Rukh Khan starred-‘Raees‘, which was due for release on Republic Day.
Similar happened with Karan Johar‘s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, this wasn’t just because the film features Pakistani actor Fawad Khan but also his leading ladies characters, played by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Anushka Sharma is playing Pakistani residents role.

The film was supposed to release on Diwali but because of the anti-Pakistani wave that is sweeping through India right now, he is facing a dual dilemma- it is too late to replace Fawad, but his female leads play Pakistani women. So what he is planning to do is tweak the script a bit and work it in such a way that they are no longer Pakistani citizens, but belong to another country.
On the other hand, it was difficult for the producer of Ritesh Sadhwani to take a tough decision to replace Mahira Khan with some other actors, he said “it became impossible to shoot with any Pakistani actors. People suggested all kinds of solutions to the impasse, including shooting in Dubai. But it didn’t seem viable. Now, Mahira has unfortunately been relieved of her duties.” They now are searching for a new actor, the hunt must be completed in two weeks.
For Ae Dil Hai Mushkil Karan Johar toyed with the idea of replacing Fawad Khan with Saif Ali Khan. Saif was already in Karan Johar’s mind as earlier he wanted Saif to play Fawad Khan’s role. Later, he was selected to play the role of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s ex-husband in the film, but that too didn’t work out and eventually SRK did that role.
