IB, Customs officers arrested for trying to loot smuggled gold

Kolkata, Sep 9 (PTI) Seven persons, including a centralIntelligence Bureau officer and two retired officers of theCustoms, were today arrested for trying to loot gold from acourier employee at Howrah station here. The accused IB officer and two retired Customs officerstried to loot around five kg gold from the employee while hewas getting off the Kamrup Express at the Howrah Station thismorning, a senior officer of Howrah Police Commissioneratesaid. "The accused had somehow got the information that thisperson was carrying gold. They nabbed him saying that theywere conducting a raid and will arrest him," the officer said. Acting on a tip-off, a team of police personnel fromHowrah Police reached the spot at the same time when the IBofficer and his associates told them that a "raid was on andthey would take the person and the gold with them," he said. "On finding that the officers’ statements were discrepantour officers brought them here and on questioning theyadmitted their crime," the officer said. PTI SCH MDMRJ
