Second round of Hmar peace talks in September

Aizawl, Aug 29 (PTI) The second round of peace talksbetween the Mizoram government and Manipur-based Hmar People’sConvention (Democratic) will be held in September, officialssaid today. The two sides have agreed to hold parleys in Aizawl inmid-September, but may defer the talks to third week of themonth if any unavoidable circumstances comes up, they said. The first round of the talks was held here on August 10which, according to the officials, ended on an optimisticnote with both the sides expressing sincerity to find amicablesolution to the Hmar imbroglio. HPC(D), formed soon after the Mizoram government and theoriginal outfit HPC signed an agreement in 1994, has beendemanding a separate autonomous district council under theSixth Schedule of the Constitution by carving out areasadjoining Manipur.
