Association demands admission to students

Puducherry, Aug 27 (PTI) Puducherry Parents andStudents Welfare Association today expressed dismay over thegovernment’s silence on admission of students, who had takenup NEET 2016. The seven privately-run medical colleges and threedental colleges were dragging the issue of admitting students,Association leaders V Bala and M Narayanasamy told reportershere. As many as 717 seats in medical colleges and 225 seatsin dental colleges should be filled on the basis of meritscored by students in the NEET exam, they said. They said the Association proposed organising a bandhin the Union Territory on September 3, to register its protestagainst the ‘unhelpful attitude of the government andirresponsive stance of the private managements on the issue ofadmission. Bala said, the Kerala, Karnataka and Maharashtragovernments had come out with a clear stand on the admissionand also on fees to be remitted by the candidates to thecolleges in their respective states. They also took strong exception to the PuducherryHealth Minister Malladi Krishna Rao making a request to themanagements of medical colleges to at least earmark tenpercent of the seats in their institutions to students ofPuducherry.
