TMC leader claims there will be no sign of Congress, CPI-M

Date:

Kolkata, Aug 25 (PTI) Senior TMC leader Abhishek Banerjeetoday claimed that there would be no sign of the Congress andthe CPI-M in West Bengal by the end of this year. "Please wait for a few more days. I can just tell you thatthere will be no sign of the Congress and the CPI(M) by theend of this year," Banerjee, nephew of state Chief MinisterMamata Banerjee, asserted. Over the past few months a large number of electedrepresentatives of the Congress and Left Front constituentsswitched over to the Trinamool Congress and several ZillaParishads and municipalities controlled by the Left Front andthe Congress have gone to the TMC fold. The TMC has now set its eye on the Left Front-controlledSiliguri Municipal Corporation and Congress-controlledMurshidabad Zilla Parishad. Only today a councillor of the Siliguri MunicipalCorporation today joined the TMC. In Murshidabad, a Congress stronghold and bastion of statepresident Adhir Chowdhury, the party is facing a seriouschallenge to defend its zilla parishad as eight of itsmembers, one of CPI(M) and another from AIFB had recentlyjoined the TMC, taking the number of TMC members to 29 in the70-member council. The opposition parties are crying foul over thedevelopment as they alleged that the ruling party was out tofinish the Opposition in the state which is detrimental for ahealthy democracy.
