Roopanwal commission submits report on Rohith Vemula suicide

New Delhi, Aug 23 (PTI) The Justice (retd.) A K RoopanwalCommission, which was constituted by the HRD Ministry to lookinto the circumstances leading to the death of Dalit scholarRohith Vemula in Hyderabad Central University, is learnt tohave submitted its report. Sources said the one-member Commission has submitted itsreport to UGC officials, though there was no officialconfirmation. Top officials in the HRD Ministry, when contacted,remained mum on the development. Higher Education Secretary V S Oberoi refused to eitherconfirm or deny that the report has been submitted. HRDMinister Prakash Javadekar, when contacted, said that thereport has not reached him yet. The Roopanwal Commission had been formed by the HRDMinistry to look into the circumstances leading to the deathof Vemula. He had committed suicide by hanging himself from theceiling of a hostel room in the university. The suicide by Vemula had triggered a huge politicalstorm with opposition parties launching a massive attack onthe Union Government over the issue. PTI ADSSMN
