Irom Sharmila appears in court

Imphal, Aug 23 (PTI) Irom Sharmila, who broke her16-year-old fast demanding repeal of the Armed Forces SpecialPower Act, today appeared before the court of Chief JudicialMagistrate, Imphal West, Lamkhanpau Tonsing. The court had on August nine released her on bail on apersonal bond of Rs 10,000 after she gave the assurance thatshe would end her fast. Sharmila has been asked to appear before the same court onSeptember 5, a court source said. She was taken back to the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute ofMedical Sciences Hospital where she is getting treatment, ahospital source said. Asked by reporters outside the court about her fast, theIron Lady of Manipur repeated what she had said on August ninethat she had to break her fast since it had not helped hercause of getting AFSPA repealed.
