This bright Indian, lost her life in Dhaka Terror Attack

A 19-year-old Indian teenager, Tarishi Jain was among those twenty unfortunate foreigners who were killed after being taken hostage by a group of terrorist at a Café in Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh.

Sushma Swaraj, External Affairs Minister of India, today confirmed on Twitter: “Tarishi was 19 years old. She passed out from American School Dhaka. Presently, she was a student at Berkeley.”

Swaraj said she had spoken to the girl’s father and conveyed her condolences to him.


Tarishi was a student at California’s UC Berkeley who was on a vacation in Dhaka. She was originally from Firozabad, UP.  Her father has been running a garment business in Bangladesh for last 15-20 years.

Tarishi Jain was caught up in the horrific 11-hour siege at the Holey Artisan Bakery, a Western-style cafe popular with foreigners located in the diplomatic quarter of the capital.

Jain had finished her schooling from the American School in Dhaka and then went to the University of California, Berkeley, Swaraj added.

Tarishi’s Facebook profile showed she was a member of the International Students Association at Berkeley. She posted photographs with friends and family, and from past vacations in Switzerland and Turkey as well.
