Cricketer Amit Mishra released after being arrested in assault case

Cricketer Amit Mishra has been released on bail after having been arrested in an alleged assault case in Bengaluru.

According to reports, Mishra was grilled by the police for over three hours after which he was arrested.


Mishra was summoned by the Bengaluru police on Tuesday for questioning after he was booked for the alleged physical assault of a woman in his hotel room in the city last month.

Mishra had been booked under Indian Penal Code sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 328 (causing hurt with intent to commit an offence),

The incident reportedly took place in September when the cricketer was visiting the city. The woman in question has been identified as 34-year old Bengaluru resident Vandana Jain by Bangalore Mirror. She is reportedly a Bollywood producer and the co-owner of Celebrity Cricket League’s Bengal Tigers team along with Boney Kapoor.

Jain has accused Mishra of assaulting her with an electric kettle inside a room in the Ritz Carlton, a five-star hotel in the city during a verbal duel and also outraging her modesty.

The report says that Mishra was was a regular to city for training at National Cricket Academy (NCA). He reportedly visited Jain at her house on Rest House, Crescent Road every time he visited and they were said to be good friends for the past three years. However, she alleged that Mishra tried to avoid her and she hence confronted him in his hotel room.
