Free entry to 200 monuments across India on World Tourism Day

Date:

New Delhi: On account of World Tourism Day, the ministry of culture has announced free entry for tourists to nearly 200 ticketed monuments and museums across India on Sunday.

“The government is taking various measures to reach out to tourists and that the Centre is determined to attract more internationals tourist from across the world,” minister of state for culture Mahesh Sharma said.

116 national monuments including Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Qutub Minar, Red Fort and 35 museum sites under the ASI will be free for entry, the ministry of culture said.

The Union tourism ministry in July said the foreign tourist arrivals (FTAs) in India have registered a 1.8% growth compared to June last year, with the US contributing the highest number of tourists.

September 27th has been globally recognized by the UN as World Tourism Day since 1980.

With this year’s theme of ‘One billion tourists, one billion opportunities’, the World Tourism Day 2015 emphasizes the impact of the sector on economic growth, job creation and development, according to the UN World Tourism Organization.
