India strengthens security cooperation with Laos

Date:

In order to stem the fake currency racket and to clamp down on Indian terror and mafia groups, India and Laos have decided to intensify security cooperation.
The matter was discussed between the two countries during talks that the Indian Vice President Hamid Ansari and his delegation had in Vientiane.

During the talks, extremism and terrorism were also discussed and both sides agreed to step up cooperation bilaterally and also in multilateral fora like ASEAN.

Asked about security cooperation with Southeast Asian countries especially in light of them being used for crimes like fake currency, Ansari said security cooperation in present times is an ongoing exercise with every country in the world.

“We discussed security cooperation increase our dialogue in the larger context as it is very easy for these groups to move within ASEAN countries,” secretary east in the ministry of external affairs Anil Wadhwa said in response to a question by NewsMobile.

Vientiane was used as a safe haven by Khalistani terrorist Devinderpal Singh Bhullar who was using the friendship bridge that connects Vientaine with Thai province of Nongkhai across the Mekong river.

Bhullar was later arrested in Thailand and then extradited to India and is now facing trial.
