Lamborghini to roll out SUV Urus soon

Date:

There is a good news for all the car lovers as legendary car maker, Lamborghini, is releasing a new SUV. The Italian super car maker officially confirmed the launch of Urus SUV by 2018.

During the launch of its ‘Urus’ concept car in 2012 at Beijing Auto show, the company gave a hint of launching a new SUV car. And now it’s finally official after so many years of speculation.

The new model will be built in Italy at Lamborghini’s Sant’Agata plant and will be introduced as a 2018 model with a target of 3000 sale a year. The company will also be hiring 500 more people as it plans to expand its business.

The new SUV will also be launched in India as well.

President and CEO, Lamborghini, Stephan Winkelmann said, “India is a big market for us and we have seen growth there. The Huracan and the Aventador have been well received and we will bring the Urus to India after its launch in 2018”

“We have said that we will expand our production volume to cater to the demand and we are in the process of doing so, how soon it will happen, I cannot tell,” he added.

The project is being partially funded by about €100 million worth of tax breaks and incentives, courtesy the Italian government. The deal has been in the works for a few weeks and was made official when Winkelmann and Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi met in Rome to sign a letter of intent.

The landmark announcement is described as “the beginning of a new era” for the Italian super car maker.

Features

It’ll be the first four-seat Lamborghini SUV since the tank-like LM002 4X4 of the eighties. It is likely to be called as Urus.

Earlier reports claimed the first Lamborghini SUV, since the demise of the ill-fated LM002, will boast about 600 horsepower in its most basic state of tune. All-wheel drive will come standard, but the automaker hasn’t decided whether the off-roader will be powered by a naturally-aspirated 5.2-liter V10 engine borrowed from the Huracán LP610-4 or a smaller V8 unit.

Regardless, Lamborghini will turn to lightweight materials like carbon fiber in order to keep weight in check, and the SUV is expected to be one of the lightest and fastest models in its segment.

Price

The premium model is expected to kick off at prices of around £150,000 when it arrives in three years’ time.
