Trending #TukTuki returns home

Date:

14-year-old Tuktuki has been trending on Twitter, without even knowing what the social networking site is all about. For your benefit, Tuktuki Mondal is the girl from West Bengal, who was was abducted and released, only to be abducted again.

After a frantic search that lasted for nearly two months and a massive social media campaign that tended under the hastag of #JusticeForTukTuki, she returned home.

She was first kidnapped in February this year and released in May, only to be abducted again, leaving the family in a double shock.

Today, even though she is back home, the family shudders to step out.

Her family alleges that it’s the same group that kidnapped her the second time as well and if they’re not cautious enough, she’d be gone again.

This girl from Mograhat area of South 24-Parganas district returned to the police station on her own and will be first produced in the juvenile court before being handed over to her parents.

However, here is one disturbing tweet about the incident.

In a late night tweet, TMC National Spokesperson Derek O’ Brien described the ‘kidnapped girl’ case in Mograhat as a hoax. “So the ‘kidnapped girl’ case in Mograhat turned out to be a #TwitterHoax, pushed by one TV channel and the Sangh’s online fundoos. Mograhat girl returned home safe, denied kidnapping. Rightwing tried communal card before Eid, Trinamool July 21 event#TwitterHoax,” O’ Brien said in the tweet.
