Uttrakhand: It’s not just army forces from other countries or terrorists who cause harm to Indian army men. Sometimes, climate, weather conditions fill in that gap. Weather has wreaked havoc once again, with many parts of India reeling under fluctuating and cranky temperatures, but the worst hit are armymen, eight of whom fell prey to snowfall in Uttarakhand.
Of the eight, three were confirmed dead. Earlier, only two bodies were found, but later, the third body was also fished out after their check-post was hit by an avalanche in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, which has faced heavy snowfall over the last two days.
According to Pithoragarh district’s DM Sushil Kumar, the mishap took place on Monday at the Sialak border check post, which was manned by jawans of the Kumaon Scouts regiment. Kumar said that the higher reaches of the district have received heavy snowfall in the past two days.
Meanwhile, police said that in a separate incident on Monday, one person died in a house collapse caused by a landslide at Kapkot in Bageshwar district.
