Mumbai: The police have arrested an 18-year-old housekeeping employee of a popular Andheri lounge after he allegedly videotaped women using the washroom with a cell phone taped under the wash basin.
A woman who found a mobile phone kept on in the video mode in the ladies washroom on Sunday evening and alerted the police.
“She saw some blinking red light under the wash basin,” said Saba Shaikh, a friend of the complainant.
“The wash basin was located just opposite the commode inside the washroom and when she checked, she found the mobile phone. It was perfectly positioned to record whatever happened inside and was stuck using an adhesive tape. She removed the phone and informed us. We summoned the manager and questioned him. He said he doesn’t know anything about it and their staffers haven’t done it. Few other guests who were present at the lounge also joined us and claimed to have seen some red light under the wash basin. His name was Pappu Singh and he kept making excuses and asked us to forget it. We finally informed the police control room. Before the police could arrive, one of their housekeeping employees fled from the lounge, saying he was injured.”
The Amboli police reached the restaurant 45 mins later and started questioning the staffers. The manager finally told cops it could be the handiwork of the same person from the housekeeping department who fled from the lounge.
The Amboli police have taken the accused into custody and were recording statements of the complainant and few other guests who also joined when police arrived.
A complaint has been lodged under Section 509 IPC at the Amboli Police Station and the mobile and memory card have been seized.
