Gurgaon casino busted 43 arrested

Gurgaon: Haryana Police on Sunday arrested 43 persons, including five women, after busting a gang which was allegedly running a casino illegally in the posh locality of DLF Phase-2 of Gurgaon. The police confiscated over Rs 20 lakhs in cash. 

During the raid, cash worth Rs 20,40,000, a casino table, a number of tokens used in playing games, bundles of playing cards, a number of branded wine bottles, a currency counting machine, a wireless set and a diary were recovered.  Those detained included share brokers, businessmen, builders and people from affluent families, police said. Twenty of them are Delhi residents. 

The raid was carried out around 3am after the police received a tipoff. The police team was led by Ramesh Pal, ACP DLF, Dhaarna Yadav, ACP Sadar Gurgaon, and Devender Singh, ACP Crime-II Gurgaon. The police said gambling was on in full swing when the cops entered the premises. 

On interrogation, it came to light a casino was being run by Naresh Malhotra, a resident of DLF-2, an official release said. 

Malhotra disclosed to the police five girls hailing from Kathmandu in Nepal were hired on contractual basis, on a monthly salary of Rs 20,000, while 15 bouncers were also engaged. 

He told the police customers visiting the casino were served foreign liquor and meal. 

CCTV cameras were installed in the house to keep a strict vigil on the police or unknown persons. 

“On interrogation, he revealed no one was allowed to enter the house unless he granted permission,” the release said. 

A case under Excise Act and Prevention of Gambling Act have been registered at Police Station of DLF-2 against the arrested persons. 

Besides Malhotra and others, the five women who were arrested are Moona, Sarita Pujari, Rajni, Samjhana and Sonam, it said.
