Sunanda murder probe turns murkier

Date:

New Delhi: In yet another development in the sensational Sunanda Pushkar murder case, Shashi Tharoor’s domestic help Narayan Singh has reportedly told cops that one ‘Sunil sahab’ was with Sunanda at Hotel Leela Palace two days before her death.

Narayan, in his statement, claimed Sunanda called up Tharoor and told him he was “finished” as she had disclosed everything to the media.

Narayan, who was closest to the couple in the days preceding Sunanda’s death, has emerged as a key figure in the investigations. He was questioned at the Hauz Khas police station in South Delhi.

Narayan, who was in Himachal Pradesh, came to Delhi on Thursday morning after investigators asked him to join the probe. He was questioned for over six hours.

His interrogation came a day after a letter, written by Tharoor in November last year to Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi, surfaced in which the Congress MP accused investigators of ‘assaulting’ and ‘intimidating’ Singh into ‘confessing’ that they both killed Sunanda.

Narayan also told the Sub Divisional Magistrate that Pushkar and Tharoor had a fight the night before her body was found in room no. 345 of hotel Leela Palace.

Narayan, who was interrogated extensively in the first week of November, has given a detailed account of the chain of events on January 16 and 17, the day Sunanda died. He also recalled a fight between the couple in Dubai.

Bassi said, “Investigation is an ongoing process. We questioned Narayan Singh regarding the murder case but nothing concrete has come up till now. The investigation is on and several others will be questioned in the process.”

Meanwhile, Shashi Tharoor, who will leave the Kerala Ayurveda Centre on Friday, is likely to be questioned.
