Chairman of Bangalore school arrested for destroying evidence

Date:

Bangalore: The Bangalore police on Wednesday arrested Rustom Kerawalla, the Chairman of a Bangalore school in which a six-year-old girl was raped. He has been arrested under Section 201 of IPC which is destruction of evidence and Section 23 of Juvenile Justice Act.

He has been arrested from Daman and Diu. He failed to ensure safety for child and refused to share information, Bangalore Police Commissioner M N Reddi said. This is the second arrest in the case just days after a skating instructor of the school was arrested for committing the heinous crime.

The delay in nabbing the culprits and taking action against the school management had evoked widespread criticism, leading to protests in the city and elsewhere in the last one week.

The incident had happened on July 2 and the complaint was lodged on July 14, while the first arrest came six days later.

As public anger grew, the government had effected a reshuffle at the top police echelon on Monday, transferring Raghavendra Auradkar and bringing in M N Reddi in his place as Police Commissioner.
