A 19-year-old computer-wiz wants to be the youngest pilot to fly around the world, solo. Cheers for Matt Guthmiller from Aberdeen, South Dakota, as he lands in the Philippines. It’s just his latest stop on a trip which started in the United States in May. He went across the Atlantic, through Europe and the Middle East, then onto Asia. Guthmiller wants to set a Guinness World Record, and raise money to support computer education.
“If you have some big idea just go out, break it down, figure out how to do it and you can go and do it, you know, you can fly solo around the world, you can have an idea and start a company. You can use computer science to do that, that’s kind of what I am supporting – code.org to promote computer science education. So there’s lots of tools out there. Just go and do something,” said Guthmiller.
He’s planning more stops in Asia and Australia and Hawaii before landing at home, in South Dakota, on July 14.
