Foreign service officer leads clean up effort

Date:

New Delhi: Adopting an innovative out of the box approach, the Ministry of External Affairs officials on Monday offered ‘Shramdhan’ to weed out old files, papers, unusable and obsolete furniture etc. All official papers that had outlived their utility and were no longer needed for future reference were weeded out, shredded, rolled up in plastic bags and sent for destruction.

Special teams and trucks were organised for collection and removal of items in South Block, Jawaharlal Nehru Bhawan, Patiala House and Shastri Bhawan. The effort was spearheaded by a young foreign service Officer Shri Shambhu Kumaran, Joint Secretary (Establishment) who had worked out a schedule well in advance and had coordinated with all the senior officials to ensure their personal attention and involvement.  The aim is to improve working spaces and the work environment.
