Campa Cola residents seek President’s help

Mumbai: With the high drama at Mumbai’s Campa Cola society continuing, the defiant residents wrote a mercy petition to President Pranab Mukherjee under Article 143(1) of the Constitution, urging him to seek opinion from the Supreme Court on the case.

According to Article 143(1) of Constitution, if at any time it appears to the President that a question of law or fact has arisen, or is likely to arise, which is of such a nature and of such public importance that it is expedient to obtain the opinion of the Supreme Court upon it, he may refer the question to that Court for consideration and the Court may, after such hearing as it thinks fit, report to the President its opinion thereon.

BMC is trying for the third straight day on Sunday to enter the society and begin the eviction process. Two women residents of the building were rushed to the hospital after they broke down and fell conscious. One of them is a 60-year-old heart patient and another is an asthma patient.

BJP leader Shaina N C hit out at BMC saying, “BMC needs to be more humane. They cannot displace residents in such a manner. It is the builders who must be punished. They must come up with more reasonable solutions.”
