Jaishankar new Foreign Security Adviser to PM?

Date:

New Delhi: Dr S Jaishankar may soon be taken on board as Foreign Security Adviser to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The 1977 batch IFS officer is serving as Ambassador of India to the United States since December 2013. Prior to the present assignment, he served in China as Indian Ambassador. It is learnt that he will report directly to the Prime Minister while advising him on foreign policy issues.

He is affable and sharp, and has experience of economic diplomacy, dealing with China and the US and things out of the box.

His experience in both China and the US and deft handling of boundary standoff with China and repairing the US relationship in the wake of the Devyani Khobragade issue seems to have clinched the deal.

Jaishankar is expected to be in New Delhi soon for a final meeting before the announcement is made.
