Modi Cabinet swings into action forms SIT on black money

Date:

New Delhi: The Narendra Modi government began with a bang even in its first day in office. In its first Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, the government formed a Special Investigation Team to trace and bring back black money. SIT would be headed by former Supreme Court judge M B Shah.

The Cabinet will take up all important issues on priority basis, said Law Minister Ravi Shanker Prasad while addressing media persons after the Cabinet meeting.

On last Friday, the Supreme Court gave the Centre a week to notify a SIT probe on black money stashed in foreign banks by Indians. The apex court had also asked Centre to secure safely all documents and names of Indian account holders in LGT Bank, Liechtenstein, given to India by Germany. The court had asked the revenue secretary to keep these documents safe.

The court directive came as a petitioner expressed concern about the safety of documents as a minor fire incident was reported in Shastri Bhawan on Thursday.
