New Delhi: Wrestler Sushil Kumar, 2010 World Champion, along with archer Deepika Kumari, ranked no.2 in the world, were appointed as the Goodwill Ambassadors in India for the 2014 Incheon Asian Games.
In a move that will boost Indo-Korean relations and also bring sporting glory to India, the 2014 Incheon Asian Games Organizing Committee (IAGOC) held a PR roadshow in New Delhi on March 18, the last city among six specially selected to promote the games.
Supported by the Indian Olympic association, the roadshow aimed to generate support for the pan continental multi-sporting event among athletes, sporting bodies and members of the public.
The IAGOC President Kim Youngsoo, present at the event, said the goal of the Incheon Asian organizing Committee “Is to unite Asia through the common love of sportâ€. “We firmly believe that 2014 Incheon Asian Games will further cement the friendship between our two countries.
The IAGOC donated $1500, each, to Pullela Gopichand Badminton Foundation and Markandeshwar Hockey Center to support young players of India and contribute to development of sports in India.
India hosted the 1st Asian Games in 1951.
