Jaitley suffers minor burns

Date:

Amritsar: BJP leader Arun Jaitley on Tuesday suffered minor burn injuries when a large bunch of helium-filled balloons, part of the decorations to welcome him to Amritsar, went up in flames.

The incident, at Amritsar’s popular and crowded Novelty Chowk, occurred when sparks from crackers burst by BJP workers in celebration of Jaitley’s arrival, ignited the helium balloons setting off what many at the scene initially believed to be a bomb explosion.

The sudden resulting flames, besides Jaitley, also scorched Punjab minister Anil Joshi and BJP leader Kamal Sharma. Several workers, too, sustained burns.
