El Nino may affect India’s agro production

Date:

Singapore: The world is in for an El Nino spell, causing drought and floods. India is vulnerable to El Nino as around 60% of all droughts in the last 130 years have coincided with its visitation.

If this phenomenon matures towards end of monsoon, it may affect the production of rice, wheat and sugar.

El Nino is a warming of sea-surface temperatures in the Pacific that occurs every four to 12 years, triggering changes in weather patterns in various parts of the world.
