IPL mega mart 2014 shuts down

Bengaluru: While one side of the Indian Premier League is battling a certain Mudgal, another one is on a shopping spree, opening a whole new world of riches to players. Day one of the auctions for the IPL saw a lot of currency flying everywhere, with team owners filling their kitty with star power. Day 2 saw all the unsold and the uncapped players attracting buyers and bids, much to their liking.

With auctions almost shutting shop, each will need to have a minimum of 16 players in its squad. When the proceedings began on day two, Rajasthan Royals already had 11 players, which meant they would have to buy five players with Rs 12 cr left. Mumbai had 9 players, and they had Rs 5.15 cr to buy 6 players. Bangalore had already spent a lot on the stars and on day 2, they needed just 4 players with Rs 1.8 cr left. Kolkata had relied on smart buying, leaving 6 players for Day 2, with Rs 9 cr left.

Punjab too had been quite in the thick of actions on Day 1, needing to buy just 4 players with Rs 14.20 cr left. Hyderabad had bought 13 players on day 1, having to buy 3 players with Rs 8.4 cr left. Chennai too needed just 3 players, with Rs 2.0 cr left. Delhi needed 3 players with Rs 8.6 cr left.

The day began with Hyderabad bagging Srikkanth Anirudha for Rs 20 lakh and Mayank Agarwal for Rs 1.60 cr. Royal Challengers Bangalore settled for Vijay Zol for Rs 30 lakh, Abu Nechim Ahmed for Rs 30 lakh and Tanmay Mishra for Rs 10 lakh.

Rajasthan Royals, on the other hand bought Unmukt Chand for Rs 65 lakh, Kevon Cooper for Rs 30 lakh, pacer Dhawal Kulkarni for Rs 1.10 cr and Amit Mishra for Rs 10 lakh. Kolkata Knight Riders added Manvinder Bisla to their kitty for Rs 60 lakh, while Delhi Daredevils bagged Ross Taylor for Rs 2 cr.

Kings XI Punjab used the ‘Right to Match’ card to bag Mandeep Singh for Rs 80 lakh.
