Chinese drugs haul in Australia

Sydney: Australian police have busted a shipment of methamphetamine drugs worth $163m, in street value, hidden inside Kayaks from China.

The Australian Federal police said custom official discovered 183 kgs of meth: a highly addictive, psychoactive drug, inside 19 out of 27 kayaks in a shipping container last week.

Five persons were arrested on Tuesday in Sydney. Four of the five arrested are from Taiwan, and one is from Sydney. Two were charged with attempting to import drugs, and the others were charged with possessing a commercial quantity of drugs. They each face a maximum of life in prison if convicted.

Australia has made a series of major drug busts in recent months. Last October, police seized about AU$200 million worth of meth hidden in the tires of a truck shipped from China.
