Army Chief warns of threat from Bangladesh

Date:

New Delhi: Indian Army Chief General Bikram Singh has called illegal immigration from Bangladesh as a matter of grave concern, and a threat to the national security. In a seminar Singh said, “The problem of illegal migration in Bangladesh has led to demographic changes in the northeast, and serious internal security challenges in Assam”. He added, that although, the military received help from the current political system in Bangladesh, responsibility needed to be fixed on illegal migration.

The seminar on ‘Border and Naxal Management’ saw the Army Chief, Singh, condemn Pakistan for indulging in record ceasefire violations last year. He blamed the attacks on Islamabad’s agenda to provoke terrorism in the Kashmir valley in order to maintain its military presence in border areas.

He warned that as long as the nexus between the state polity (in Pakistan) and terror outfits like LeT continued, the forces should be prepared for all eventualities.
