Stormy Parliament session ahead

Date:

NEW DELHI: The government will convene a fortnight long session of Parliament beginning on Wednesday to pass the vote on account. It will make a concerted bid to clear pending anti-corruption legislation prioritised by Rahul Gandhi, said parliamentary affairs minister Kamal Nath.

Other pending bills include the whistleblowers protection Bill and public procurement Bill.

A vote on account is normal practice before elections as the government uses the finance minister’s speech on the occasion to more or less lay out its election pledges.

The last session of 15th Lok Sabha is likely to be a stormy affair over Telangana Bill. The coming session will be a continuation of the Winter Session as both Houses were not prorogued.

With broad contours of a `Third Force` emerging ahead of Lok Sabha polls, the government will have to face a new pressure group from the Opposition minus BJP.

Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde has made it clear that there will be no hurdle in creation of Telangana during tenure of UPA-II.

BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu said his party would propose amendments to the contentious AP Bill.
