The world champions are finally home and Rohit Sharma led squad met PM Narendra Modi at his residence.
Around 6:05 AM in the morning, a chartered Air India flight carrying the T20 world champions landed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi. At 7:00 AM, the Indian Team led by walked out of the airport and boarded the bus.
Hundreds of fans thronged to the airport braving the weather to showcase their love and support for the Indian Team for their historic win at the T20 World Championship. The fans held placards of their favourite heroes and waved the national flag with full zeal and vigour and extended a hearty welcome to the victorious team that defeated South Africa by seven runs in the final in Bridgetown on Saturday last week.
Two buses were stationed outside the airport to ferry the players to ITC Maurya Sheraton, where they were greeted by dhol and traditional Bhangra dancers.
The ‘Men In Blue’ are now flying to Mumbai where they will participate in an open bus victory parade followed by a felicitation ceremony at the Wankhede Stadium.
