New Delhi: Shubman Gill has been named captain of the Indian squad for the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe, featuring a five-match T20I series beginning on July 6. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a 15-member team on Monday.
The Indian team will arrive in Harare in early July to kick off the T20I series against the hosts. After the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 concludes, India will shift its focus to the five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe, starting from July 6 with the first game to be held at Harare Sports Club.
The squad for the upcoming T20I series in Zimbabwe includes only two players from India’s main list for the recently concluded T20 World Cup: Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sanju Samson. The remaining members of the World Cup squad have been given a break.
In addition to Jaiswal and Samson, the team features players such as Rinku Singh, Avesh Khan, and Khaleel Ahmed, who were part of the reserve list for the T20 World Cup.
Aside from the familiar international names, Abhishek Sharma, Nitish Reddy, Riyan Parag and Tushar Deshpande received maiden. The team boasts two spin options in Ravi Bishnoi and Washington Sundar.
Mukesh Kumar, Avesh, Deshpande, and Khaleel front a potent pace attack. Nitish Reddy is another pace-bowling all-rounder who has been fast-tracked.
The first match of the five-game series will be played on July 6 at the Harare Sports Club and the second will be held at the same venue the next day. The last T20I will be played on July 14 at Harare Sports Club.
