New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his heartfelt congratulations to the Indian cricket team for their triumphant victory in the T20 World Cup during a phone call with the players on Sunday.
PM Modi praised their exceptional performances, with special recognition for captain Rohit Sharma and star batsman Virat Kohli, who announced their retirement from T20 internationals following the win.
Taking to X (Formerly Twitter) PM Modi lauded Kohli stating, “Dear@imVkohli, Glad to have spoken to you. Like the innings in the Finals, you have anchored Indian batting splendidly. You’ve shone in all forms of the game. T20 Cricket will miss you but I am confident you’ll continue to motivate the new generation of players.”

Further lauding head coach Rahul Dravid and celebrating Team India’s T20 World Cup victory, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote, “Rahul Dravid’s incredible coaching journey has shaped the success of Indian cricket. His unwavering dedication, strategic insights and nurturing the right talent have transformed the team. India is grateful to him for his contributions and for inspiring generations. We are happy to see him lift the World Cup. Happy to have congratulated him.”

PM Modi lauded all-rounder Hardik Pandya’s efforts in the final over of the match and praised Suryakumar Yadav for his catch that dismissed South Africa’s David Miller. He also spoke highly of Jasprit Bumrah’s contribution to the team in the T20 World Cup 2024. The PM also thanked departing head coach Rahul Dravid for his contribution to Indian cricket.
India defeated South Africa by seven runs in the final match of the T20 World Cup 2024 in Barbados.
