New Delhi: PM Modi has congratulated the new British Prime Minister-elect Keir Starmer. PM Modi also praised the outgoing British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. The Labour Party secured a big majority in the UK parliamentary elections.
There are 650 seats in the UK elections, out of which the labour secured 412 seats. This also ended the 14-year conservative rule in Great Britain. PM Modi said that he is eager to collaborate with the new UK government and boost bilateral relations.
PM Modi tweeted, “Heartiest congratulations and best wishes to Keir Starmer on the remarkable victory in the UK general elections. I look forward to our positive and constructive collaboration to further strengthen the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in all areas, fostering mutual growth and prosperity”. Also in another tweet PM Modi thanked Sunak for his efforts to take India-UK relations to a new height.
PM Modi also tweeted, “Thank you, Rishi Sunak, for your admirable leadership of the UK, and your active contribution to deepen the ties between India and the UK during your term in office. Best wishes to you and your family for the future.”
The Rishi Sunak-led Conservative Party suffered a massive defeat in the elections. This was due to many reasons like the cost of living crisis, internal turmoil, and voter dissatisfaction with the party’s performance over the past few years. Starmer led Labour Party to win a landslide victory in the elections and Keir Starmer is all set to take over as the next UK Prime Minister.
The victory of the Labour Party reflects a significant shift in British politics and Starmer pledged “national renewal” and a return to public service. In his victory speech, Starmer said, “Our task is nothing less than renewing the ideas that hold this country together. National renewal. If you work hard, if you play by the rules, this country should give you a fair chance to get on We have to restore that”
