New Delhi: India rebukes a report by the US State Department alleging Human Rights abuses in the country. India has said that the report is deeply biased and reflects a poor understanding of the largest democracy in the world.
Ministry Of External Affairs (MEA) Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal during a press briefing said that the report is deeply biased and reflects a poor understanding of the largest democracy in the world. He told the press that India attaches no value to it and they should also not attach any value to it.
The response from the government of India comes days after the State Department’s annual Human rights assessment which alleged numerous instances in which the government and its allies allegedly pressured or harassed media outlets critical of the government. S. Jaishankar, the minister of external affairs, criticized the West on Tuesday for unfairly criticizing India and claimed that they participate in the nation’s elections as “political players.”
Jaishankar while delivering an address on “Foreign Policy the India Way: From Diffidence to Confidence” in Hyderabad said that he gets a lot of noise from the Western Press and he said that if they criticise India’s democracy, it is not because they lack knowledge but because they think they are the political players in our election.
Jaishankar added that he read an article where some Western media said that “it is so hot in India, why are they holding elections at this time?” He said he read the article and wanted to tell them that in that heat India’s lowest turnout is higher than your highest turnout in the best record. In the end, he added that these are the games which are being played with India.
