New Delhi: Following their T20 World Cup victory, the Indian men’s cricket team is set to return home in the early hours of Thursday. Air India’s special charter flight, AIC24WC (Air India Champions 24 World Cup), departed at 4:50 AM local time on Wednesday, carrying the Men in Blue. The flight is scheduled to land in New Delhi at around 6:20 AM IST on Thursday.
After their arrival in India, the victorious Indian men’s cricket team and support staff are scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi at 9:30 AM. The felicitation ceremony, set to last a couple of hours, will celebrate the team’s remarkable achievement in winning the T20 World Cup. After the ceremony in the capital, the entire contingent will depart for Mumbai on another chartered flight.
Upon reaching Mumbai, the team will head to the Wankhede Stadium, where an open bus parade is scheduled to begin at 5 PM IST on Thursday. The parade will allow fans to join in the celebrations and cheer for their heroes as they travel through the city in an open-top bus.
Team India extended an invitation to Indian fans, urging them to join in the celebration of the Men-in-Blue’s ICC T20 World Cup triumph. The World Cup-winning skipper Rohit Sharma encouraged passionate supporters to attend the victory parade at Marine Drive and the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
A grand presentation ceremony will follow at 7 PM at the Wankhede Stadium. During the event, India captain Rohit Sharma will officially hand over the T20 World Cup trophy to BCCI Secretary Jay Shah. The trophy will be housed at the BCCI headquarters for the next two years.
India secured their second T20 World Cup title, and their first in 17 years, by defeating South Africa in a thrilling final at Kensington Oval in Barbados last week.
