Rahul heads south; will Congress’ strategy be the ace they need

Congress is leaving no stone unturned in its quest to be the winner in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Five years in the opposition deck has left them contemplating their moves, redesigning their strategy, connecting with the grassroot level and inspiring collations with many regional parties. The vision, as also mentioned in their manifesto, is as clear as it can be – get us to power and ‘we will deliver’.

Party chief, Rahul Gandhi, filed his nomination papers from Wayanad in Kerala today amidst much fanfare, cheering supporters and wide media coverage. This is his second constituency apart from Amethi, the otherwise Gandhi stronghold.

Though BJP was quick to call it the ‘runaway act’, Gandhi clan retorted by calling it the much-required South connect that BJP had forgotten in its rule.

How this war of words finally shapes up, only time will tell. But for Rahul Gandhi, a national presence and to be seen as a mass leader is by far the most important yardsticks. This is where his opponent scores and for Congress to traverse the distance, Wayanad could be the crucial factor.

Later in the day, sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also praised her brother by calling him her truest friend and the most courageous man she knows. She urged the people of Wayanad to take care of him as he won’t let them down.

The sister’s emotional pitch was timely, in the spirit and hopefully should help connect with the constituency’s local flavour.

The south card could help them deliver, after all.
