IRDA Intervention Will Ensure Hospitals Cannot Force You To Pay By Cash If You Have Cashless Policy

In a big relief to patients and their relatives in these trying times when getting hospital beds is becoming a matter of luck, the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA) on Tuesday has urged hospitals not to discriminate between patients having cash and cashless policies while treating COVID-19 cases.

After reports started pouring in of hospitals forcing patients to pay in cash despite having cashless mediclaim policies, the IRDA also asked insurers to see to it that cashless services are available for insured COVID-19 patients and see to it that they are not harassed to pay in cash.

This indeed is a welcome move which will take off the unwarranted worry among patients about having to cough up cash for treatment.
